Katrina Kessler was appointed commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in November 2021, where she leads Governor Walz’s Climate Subcabinet and focuses on collaborative, practical solutions to complex environmental challenges.
She previously served as assistant commissioner for water policy and agriculture and has over 15 years at the MPCA in engineering and leadership roles. Before that, she directed surface water and sewer operations for the City of Minneapolis, overseeing infrastructure and climate and water quality initiatives.
Katrina holds degrees in Environmental Science from American University and Environmental Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Outside of work, she enjoys outdoor activities and traveling with her family.
