FIELD TRIP A: ST. ANTHONY FALLS LAB & WATER WORKS TOUR

Tuesday, August 25 | 9:00am - 3:30pm
Add-On Cost: $120/person

Explore two standout Minneapolis water infrastructure sites in one immersive field experience.

The tour begins at the Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory, a globally recognized research hub for fluid mechanics, hydrology, and earth-surface dynamics. Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at indoor and outdoor research facilities, including work focused on stormwater innovation, climate change research, and water quality. The lab is an active research environment, giving participants a rare opportunity to see applied water science in action.

Following the lab tour, attendees will enjoy lunch at Father Hennepin Bluff Park before continuing to the Water Works building at Mill Ruins Park. This transformed riverfront site includes traditional stormwater BMPs and a stormwater reuse system that captures and stores runoff for irrigation and toilet flushing, noted in the internal details as the first system of its kind in Minneapolis.

This tour is ideal for attendees interested in stormwater BMPs, water reuse, applied research, climate resilience, green infrastructure, and the intersection of historic preservation and sustainable site design.

Please note: Closed-toed shoes are required. Attendees should dress for an active lab and outdoor facilities, including the possibility of dust, water, mud, and sun exposure.
