Description
The Center for Watershed Protection’s ANSI-accredited Clean Water Certificate (CWC) training program introduces individuals to green infrastructure construction, inspection, and maintenance to create pathways for local businesses to hire a trained workforce into living-wage jobs. The unique design of this program is strengthened by partnerships with local workforce development organizations and significant input from stormwater industry employers to ensure that the training will lead to successful employment and a knowledgeable workforce. The addition of a train-the-trainer program has allowed the Center to support urban centers across the U.S. to bring green infrastructure workforce training to their communities. This presentation will focus on how to bring together available resources to develop a successful GSI training program, an innovative approach to public education and outreach to meet MS4 permit requirements through partnerships with local workforce development organizations, and the impact the CWC has had on the city of New Orleans as a case study.
