Description

This presentation is a case study of the Westview Park Off-Line Water Quality Pond (WQP), highlighting the successful project expansion and integration of an additional stormwater management (SWM) opportunity. Westview Park is a popular community recreation area in Catonsville, Md., off Gilston Park Road, immediately adjacent to the Dead Run main stream tributary which historically experienced increased bank erosion and stream instability from flooding associated with the approximately 50 acre urban/residential drainage area. Today, four years post construction, the WQP is functioning exceptionally with flourishing natural bio-diversity, while the restored stream structures and plantings have stabilized the stream channel. This integrated design along the Dead Run affirms that when there is an opportunity to enhance the benefits of a restoration project, we need to run with it. The results are better for both the local community and the environment. This presentation will walk you through the initial site evaluation process, detailed design, construction, and post-construction events.
