Description

Cities that operate under MS4 permits are required to implement programs to manage post-construction site runoff. This presentation will be given by two inspectors from two different areas of the country, one from southwest Missouri, and one from the San Francisco Bay Area of California, both of whom oversee the post-construction programs in their respective municipalities. Once stormwater infrastructure is installed, it is often forgotten and neglected. Inspections play a crucial role in identifying and addressing these problems. With the right mindset, inspections can be entertaining, eye-opening and educational experiences. Post-construction inspections provide a unique opportunity to engage with the public by educating property owners, maintenance staff and other responsible parties about best management practices for maintenance. Many of these stakeholders have limited knowledge of appropriate maintenance to provide adequate care to maintaining features. These interactions offer a valuable chance for outreach and instruction. This session will share stories, discuss common challenges, and impart lessons learned from thousands of completed inspections.
