Description

Managing all the moving parts of a stormwater program can quickly become overwhelming when trying to oversee site compliance with the use of traditional tools such as paper inspection forms, spreadsheets, or software that cannot support your workflows. This issue has come up time and again for environmental companies, construction companies, and municipalities who struggle to keep up with tracking issues of non-compliance spread out over a vast number of sites using inefficient processes. While trying to wade through increasing volumes of data, program managers bear the weight of scheduling reinspections for unresolved deficiencies, lacking the assurance of knowing when those have been resolved without having staff to visit the site themselves, resulting in unknowingly misallocating resources. In this session, speakers will present a model for how municipalities, environmental firms, and construction companies can tackle these challenges with the use of technology. Building on Denton’s success in improving inspection efficiency throughout over 150 active construction projects, the collaborators will dig into the strategies implemented through GIS and email-integrated, cloud-based compliance software. Specifically, the collaborators will share the tools they are using to accomplish this task and how using the data to establish best practices has helped them make informed decisions about where to allocate resources. They will also share real-world experiences of how cities have been able to use these tools to “close the loop” and communicate high-level program information to key stakeholders.
