Description

Green infrastructure has become a buzz word in many cities large and small around the country. While the science and performance of green infrastructure practices are known – the subtleties and challenges in construction are evolving. Cities and counties are relying on green infrastructure to replace aging infrastructure, reduce localized flooding and improve water quality in receiving waterbodies. Developers are using green infrastructure practices to create more buildable land and meet evolving green infrastructure regulations. It is critical that green infrastructure best management practices function from the day they are installed and beyond. This presentation will provide information on lessons learned in construction from Ferguson’s experience playing a support role in large municipal green infrastructure programs such as Philadelphia, Pinellas County, and New York City. The presentation will also provide practical strategies to increase collaboration between engineers, landscape architects, and site contractors to construct and maintain green infrastructure best management practices.
