Description
The Jefferson and Hood Street Surface Water Interceptor will play a vital role in providing additional surface water capacity to alleviate flooding and increase capacity for growth in a busy downtown city center. Project improvements included approximately 3,200 feet of new 48- and 60-inch surface water conveyance pipe; trenchless crossings of mainline railroad tracks, light-rail tracks, and a major city arterial; tie-ins to existing active storm drains; and a new marine outfall with adjoining shoreline improvements. The presentation will discuss the hydrologic and hydraulic modeling performed for sizing and locating drainage infrastructure; selection and implementation of erosion and sediment control BMPs used during construction; temporary bypass systems for managing surface water during construction; and the engineering process for installing a large-diameter stormwater outfall below the ordinary high-water mark.
